Questions parents ask
A few things to know before you book.
More questions are answered on the Q&A page.
When should my child first see a dentist?
Before anything hurts. A first visit with nothing wrong is how a child learns the chair is harmless, and it means we meet each other before there is a problem to solve.
My child is frightened of the dentist. What actually happens?
Nothing happens on the first visit that your child has not agreed to. Each instrument is explained and demonstrated before it is used, and the rooms have entertainment during treatment. Where that is not enough, the dentist can discuss nitrous oxide — laughing gas — a sweet-smelling gas that leaves your child awake but relaxed.
Do you treat children with autism or additional needs?
Yes. Our dentists are trained for children with sensory sensitivities and communication differences, using social stories and an approach informed by applied behaviour analysis. Tell us what helps your child before the appointment so the visit can be adapted.
What if my child cannot manage treatment in the chair?
The dentist can discuss laughing gas, sedation, or treatment under general anaesthesia in hospital where that is clinically appropriate — so treatment is finished in one sitting rather than fought over across many appointments.
Does my insurance cover dental treatment?
Coverage depends on your insurer, your plan and the treatment. Tell reception your insurer when you arrange the appointment and they will confirm your cover before you arrive.
Let’s arrange your child’s visit.
Tell us your child’s age and what you would like to discuss. Reception will confirm a time.
